Go Deeper to Learn the True Differences Between Shared SSL and Private SSL

I see many times when people are looking to buy or renew SSL Certificate, they get confused on choosing between Shared SSL and Private SSL as both provides SSL security but in different ways and limits.

And here is the clarification for those who want to know the difference between these two SSL:

SSL(Secure Socket Layers) Certificate means whatever information you are providing to a website is getting encrypted as to secure data from theft or hackers because its transferred via Internet.

A Shared SSL will use SSL Renewal domain to display the website URL where as Private SSL will display with your domain name in the address bar.

Shared SSL only provide encryption not authentication of your domain. When you visit these website, it will give you security warning. This is because this particular domain has not issued the SSL certificate but it’s provided for the site on which you are on. You can see the CN(Common Name) set under “Issued To: ” section, if you choose to view the certificate.

Normally people don’t like the websites with Shared SSL when uploading their private or credit card information because of the security error shown. This is the reason why E-Commerce websites also don’t use Shared SSL.

Private SSLs protect customer trust by being unique to customer’s name, address and company information with higher level of security. Therefore most online businesses tend to use Private SSL which is taking credit card information directly. Also when people visit your website securely, because of Private SSL it will not cause any security warning messages to show up.
