Installing SSL on Microsoft IIS 8 & 8.5 – Single Certificate
- You should have received an e-mail from your issuing authority which includes your certificate in a zip file. Save to the desktop file called ‘your domain name.cer.’
- Search for it in the Start menu to open IIS manager.
- Pick the server you would like to mount an SSL certificate on.
- As shown in the image below, find and double-click on the Server Certificates button at the bottom of the center menu.
See the button on the right for Actions? Click on Complete Certificate Request … Now you should see the Full Certificate Request wizard.
Select and browse the file your domain name.cer, enter its friendly name and select Personal in the certificate store as shown in the image below.
Note: If you want to install multiple SSL certificates on IIS, choose Web Hosting option rather than Private.
- Click OK. Installation of the certificate will commence now.
- Now that you’ve taken care of SSL on your computer, the next step is allocating the website license.
To do this you need to go back to the IIS Manager’s main frame. From the left-hand connection panel, select the server name you have just installed an SSL certificate on.
- The server name lists an choice called Pages. Choose which site you want to encrypt.
- Tap Bindings on the Actions menu. Your computer will see a window called ‘Domain Binding.’
Click on Add.
- In the Add Site Binding window, all the values should be as following:
- Type: https
- IP Address: All Unassigned
- Port: 443
Select the domain on which you want to install SSL and click OK.
