Important tips before you activate SSL

  1. Before you activate SSL, there are a few things you should know.
  2. Check with your hosting provider to see if third-party SSL certificates are supported.
  3. For SSL installation, certain hosting companies may still demand a dedicated IP address. As a result, please double-check this with the server provider.
  4. Note that the dedicated IP is not necessary for SSL installation on Namecheap hosting because all of our servers are equipped with SNI technology.
  5. Make a note of where you got the RSA private key that came with your CSR code because you’ll need it for the installation. Without this code, you won’t be able to install the certificate.

3.SSL certificates cannot be given for domains that Google Safe Browsing considers to be hazardous. Sectigo CA will immediately remove all hazardous domains from Multi-Domain SSL Certificates (former Comodo). Here you may check the status of the site’s Safe Browsing.
4.Select the validation method to authenticate your domain ownership from the drop-down list on the next page.
5.You’ll need to establish a custom record in your domain DNS for the CNAME-based method. After the activation, this CNAME record will be delivered.
6.To obtain a certificate via file-based validation, you must upload a specific text file to a specific directory on your website (/.well-known/PKI-validation/). After the order is submitted to the Certificate Authority for activation, you’ll be able to download the certificate file from your account.
Note: If you activated the certificate using domain.com or www.domain.com as the FQDN in your CSR code, double-check that the file is accessible at http://domain.com/.well-known/pki-validation/file.txt. www.domain.com is also regarded to be within your control in this scenario.
7.Because the Sectigo (previously Comodo) validation mechanism is case-sensitive, the file’s content should not be modified in any manner.

To confirm your certificate request, review the information and click Submit.

Confirmation to enable the SSL certificate

Within 10 minutes of activation, confirmation emails are sent to the approval address. You must click the link provided in the approval email to confirm the issuance. Following that, the validated certificate will be emailed to the administrative email address specified during the activation process.
Because the Certificate Authority must locate the file or record, HTTP-based and CNAME-based validation may take longer. Please ensure that the file is publicly accessible and that your server’s requests are not being blocked by a firewall.
A Certificate Authority’s validation system runs automated tests on the validation file/record over a set period of time. If validation fails, double-check that the data in the file/record is accurate and accessible, and make any necessary changes. When the CA validation system does its next check, the file/record should be validated once the information is correct and available.
Before the CA’s document submission request, Sectigo (formerly Comodo) OV/EV certificates will still send a domain validation email. Certificate Authority will provide you a list of documents required to authenticate your business if you order an OV/EV certificate, depending on the type of certificate. Make sure the Whois for your domain contains the necessary contact information to speed up the certificate issuing. The Certification Authority may take up to an hour to process your order.
